The cost of attending a college or university is show in comparison to the published tuitions of all other universities in the database. You should see something like this:
The entire set of colleges and universities is contained in the light blue. The y-axis is the number of colleges with a tuition at the amount on the x-axis. And yes, on the far right, there is 1 college that charges $94,000 tuition.
Overlaid on the pale blue histogram is a dark blue line that represents the tuition of this particular college–in the image above, we’re seeing the in-state on-campus tuition of my institution, Ferris State University.
As you can see, at $22,976, we’re right in the middle of a large set of other institutions. You can change ‘On Campus’ to ‘Off’, or ‘In State’ to ‘Out of State.’ The comparison background will update for each.
Some institutions special tuition rates for individuals who live in particular district. These are contained in the ‘In District’ dataset.
